Yang Style Tai Chi Fan Session 2 Wrap up

On 12 November 2023, Professor Lily Sun led a second exclusive workshop for tai chi enthusiasts to learn session 2 of the Yang Style Tai Chi Fan 28 routine.

Professor Lily delivered clear and comprehensive instructions on Session 2 movements and tai chi fan techniques. Participants immersed themselves in the foundational skills and techniques essential for mastering the subtlety, intricacy and pleasure of the latest and most popular modern fan routine.

Having trained extensively with the creator of the Yang Style Taichi Fan 28, Professor Yang Li, Professor Lily delivered rare insights and a enthralling learning experience.

Professor Lily’s knowledge of the routine and her renowned teaching expertise ensured a high standard of learning for participants. As always, students particularly enjoyed the explanations of subtle fan martial applications - not just simply the basic movements. Professor Lily explained how the fan can be used to startle or visually confuse an opponent, deflect or redirect attacks, and with a flick of the wrist the fan can collapse to strike, parry hits or block other weapons.

We practiced the circular and linear movements of the Tai Chi Fan 28 – open, close, strike, block, poke, sweep, or hook – combined with footwork, body rotation, and other techniques of this fluid and powerful martial art.

And the engaging and uplifting movement names such as “Rain dragon returns to the sea”, “Mighty ox tills the fields” and “Bee tricks the butterfly” inspired our positive enjoyment and assisted our memory of the movements.

Once again Professor Lily was very impressed by students excitement and excellent results achieved learning the techniques and movements of the second half of Tai Chi Fan 28.

Wulong delivers Taichi services for corporate and community

For Immigration Museum and Vic Health we delivered customised taichi and qigong workshops ‘Wellbeing Wednesdays’ of easy and well researched taichi and qigong movements to stimulate energy and promote unity of mind and body to support health and wellbeing.

Tai Chi Fan - A mesmerising martial art

Thank you, Professor Lily! For teaching us the subtle and intricate ways of the Yang Style Tai Chi Fan 28.

With the sharp crack of opening and closing fans resounding in our ears, we practiced the circular and linear movements of the Tai Chi Fan 28 – strike, block, poke, sweep, or hook – combined with footwork, body rotation, and other techniques of this fluid and powerful martial art.

Professor Lily showed us how the tai chi fan can be used to startle or visually confuse an opponent, deflect or redirect attacks, and with a flick of the wrist the tai chi fan can collapse to parry hits or block other weapons.

Professor Lily was very impressed by our excitement and dedication to learning the techniques and movements of the first half of Tai Chi Fan 28, with the excellent results achieved, and our enthusiasm for more training.

Taichi Sword 42 Session 2 - the best!

ONE OF OUR BEST EVER WORKSHOPS!  Wulong Tai Chi Kung Fu is celebrating its hugely successful Taichi Sword 42 Session 2 Workshop held on 6 November 2022.  A hard routine - Taichi Sword 42 is the standard for international competition - and a difficult routine to learn, but made easy under the guidance of Professor Lily Sun.

After the fascinating Taichi Sword 42 Session 1 Workshop, completing Session 2 ensured students were totally enthralled with the beauty and joy of taichi sword.

Under Lily’s expert instruction, we were captivated by the Taichi Sword 42 routine, we stabbed, thrust, blocked, parried, and pointed the sword, while moving left and right, back, front and oblique. We were delighted to discover our improved balance and posture, focus and control of the sword, and our strength and endurance as well.

Professor Sun was very impressed with how attentive and diligent workshop students were, and glad to pass on more of her knowledge and skills of the taichi sword to future practitioners.

“I was excited to see students quickly adopt the correct posture, stance and balance – improvements from the first session. I am very proud of the good technique students demonstrated and delighted with their efforts.

“Students have focussed well and learnt faster, and their hard work practising the first session and foundation taichi sword movements is evident in the impressive achievements today. I am also delighted to see the photos which clearly demonstrate the high standard achieved at the workshop.”

Professor Lily Sun has practiced taichi sword since eight years old, it being her speciality short weapon during her Wushu career. Professor Sun is rare among Australian taichi practitioners as she has won gold medals in taichi sword at the national level in China.  Her superior training techniques has ensured correct foundation and technique as the practical applications of each movement were taught, not just simply the basic movements.

Wulong Taichi success at GemLife Woodend

GemLife Woodend residents are seeking to improve their health and wellbeing by learning taichi. Since the introduction of weekly classes on Wednesdays at Gemlife Woodend a few months ago, increasing numbers of enthusiastic residents have joined.

Wulong principle Professor Lily Sun says the idea is to keep the body moving.

"As we get older, we have to be more proactive to keep the joints and body moving, and taichi is the perfect way to do it” she said. “We do all the warmups and foundation movements because those exercises give ongoing benefits by incorporating stretching, balance and moving all the joints and muscles."

The first couple to move into the GemLife resort, Doreen and Danny, regularly attend the classes and say they are benefiting greatly from the sessions.

“We joined the taichi class to help with balance, breath control and more, and found it has also assisted with better coordination. It's not hard to do the exercises and those taking part can adjust the routine to suit their own abilities and  circumstances. We are not great at sports, but taichi is something anyone can do," said Doreen.

GemLife Woodend Resort Manager Leanne Boxshall agreed, adding:

"It's amazing how quickly you can benefit from regular taichi classes."

GemLife enthusiastic taichi students are  looking forward to taking the classes outdoors in the country club alfresco area where they can enjoy the fresh air and warmer spring and summer weather.
